Dartmouth, also nicknamed as the City of Lakes, is a located on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour.
Dartmouth provides ample opportunity for numerous outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming, hiking and biking. With Lake Banook centrally located in Dartmouth, it offers a first-rate paddling area that regularly sees international competitions. There are plentiful spots on Dartmouth’s lakes for skating and ice hockey. Around Lake Banook you can also find great trail for maintaining your fitness. Shubie Park is also offers nature trails, playing fields, a campground and a supervised beach.
Although many people live and work in Dartmouth, there are also many that commute to Halifax for work on a daily basis. Most choose to drive or take the bus and make use of the two bridges, Angus L. MacDonald Bridge and the A. Murray MacKay Bridge to get to Halifax. The HRM Metro system also operates two ferries for commuters, one departs from Woodside and one from Alderney Landing (downtown Dartmouth) with both arriving downtown Halifax in Historic Properties.
